  1. Jim

I feel tired no matter how many hours I sleep. The last 2 years it has just gone downhill. I’m only 18 and I feel burnt out. I also can barely force myself to get up but at the same time I hate going to sleep.

At night I don’t want to sleep because I want more time be free of any social anxiety, and then in the morning I guess I don’t want to wake up for two reasons: 1)I don’t want deal with another day of anxiety 2)I have no reason to wake up because I feel my dreams are just out of reach. To cap off the deal I am nervous 5pm and on and in the morning I am nervous when I am laying in bed after hitting the snooze button.

I don’t know if this is a will power thing or my mind under the control of anxiety and depression. I often wonder if will power really exists or it is just an illusion. Is everyone the way they are because that’s the way they are?

  2. Hi Jim, First let me suggest that you go see your doctor if you haven’t already. If you haven’t gone before for this problem then it is likely that they would run some blood test, check your blood sugar, and a few other tests.

There are a lot of things that an cause fatigue. The reason you want to see a doctor first is to rule out any medical cause and to get a better idea on what could be the cause.

If it turns out that your in tip top shape then you want to focus on things that you can control. For example what kind of foods do you eat? Are they healthy types of food or junk foods? Are you overweight? Do you exercise on a regular basis?

These are things that you should ask yourself and take action on. At your age there is no reason, outside of medical causes, why you should be so run down.

Lastly, don’t beat your self up about your situation. If it is anxiety and depression that are ailing you then rest assured that there is plenty you can do to get better. There are several archives on this site to help you get started. And Jim, I just have to say this, your dreams are not out of reach. Your 18 years old and have your whole life ahead of you. You need to adjust your thinking, get some goals, and go after them. You are only limited by how creative and hard working you can be. Never, ever give up on yourself. Life is literally what you make of it. So heed the advice, get checked out, and get on the road to being who you want to be. Don’t allow anxiety and depression to dictate how you’re going to live life. Good luck.
