Getting the Paranoia Out of Your Head (podcast)

Typically when people think of anxiety or anxiety disorder they don’t think about paranoia at the same time. But if your anxiety has been severe enough for a prolonged period of time you can certainly develop mild to moderate forms of paranoid thinking. Today’s podcast is about telling you what that means and how to stop it.

First though, I want to point out that just because you have paranoid thoughts this does not in any way make you crazy. Instead, being paranoid is more a symptom of being wrapped up in your thoughts and concerns. It’s you being way too concerned with what might happen.

Secondly, the reason you need to stop being paranoid is because paranoid thoughts feed your anxiety, which make your fears seem entrenched and more dangerous. This in turn will only make things worse.

I had a great time producing this edition of the Anxiety Guru Show and hope that you benefit from it.

Side-note:

There is a great book by Dr. George Weinberg entitled Self Creation. This book is a must have for any anxiety sufferer but especially for those that suffer from paranoid thoughts. Inside this book there is even a chapter entitled How to Stop Being a Paranoid that deals exclusively with this issue.

Hey Paul, this was such a great podcast. It talks about a lot of things that I feel when I have anxiety especially the fear that I will go crazy. It’s hard not to think about it when your adrenaline starts going. I was wondering if you were going to put the podcast on itunes because I would like to transfer it onto my ipod. Just like your other podcasts, I will find helpful to have while I’m commuting.

Hi Dex, I am having some problems with my itunes feed. In fact, I’m having some tech issues with my podcast feed in general. I’ve been working to correct this so everything updates and plays like it should. I’ll post an update as soon as I find a fix. Thanks for listening!

Hi Paul. I’ve suffered from terrible anxiety all my life. (I’m 40 next week). And have terrible thoughts that I’m going insane on an almost daily basis. My anxiety controls me not the other way round. I’ve found your site hugely helpful but i can’t seem to get your pod casts. I’m especially interested with the one about paranoia. I have a galaxy note do you know if this would be an issue? Keep up the good work and many thanks your helping a lot of anxious people. Scott Cheltenham UK
