Anxiety Fueled Anger

Sometimes the irritability that is brought on by your anxiety disorder can tip you into a full rage. Whether it’s general anxiety disorder, PTSD, social phobia, etc sometimes your anger makes you want to Hulk out. Case in point, today my boss pulls me aside and tells me something negative. Something like whaw, whaw, blah blah, negative, negative. By the end of his sermon of put down I essentially lost it (in my mind of course) for a few minutes and I had to focus to maintain the appearance of full tranquility.

This is precisely why if your not careful your slight urks could balloon into full blown adult tantrums. But, of course you must keep your cool. This is why I slipped in the vintage Hulk footage. The Hulk is a perfect example of how many of us are and feel on a daily basis. He is a mild mannered regular person with no unique talents (if you are talented please excuse me) but when you cross the Hulk you better watch out. However, although the Hulk has a tendency to go bonkers he does manage to calm down so he can unhulkanize himself and how he does this is what I want to share with you.

According to an article in the Dallas Morning News the Hulk uses yoga breathing to calm down. I am not exactly sure how the articles author knows it’s yoga and not the Bellows breathing technique, but the author is spot on in highlighting the fact that breathing slowly and deeply can relax you. After my boss was done chewing me out I went out into the hallway and began my breathing techniques (various). Breathing teachniques are a great way of handling not only your anxious thoughts and feelings, but also your irritability and anger.

Whether you’re mad about your job, kids, the economy, or whatever you have to find a good way to defuse yourself. We all get mad sometimes, but anxiety disorders and the miserable symptoms they cause can create a tremendous amount of tension and frustration. Overtime this tension builds and builds until you happen to explode, even if the offending party was not particularly rude or malicious. Take a tip from the Hulk and when things get you in a rage slow down and breath it out.
