Who knew that those that suffer from mental ailments had their own global holiday? I didn't. It turns out that Friday October 10, 2008 was World Mental Health Day. This mental health initiative is the creation of the World Federation for Mental Health or the WFMH . The stated goal of this quasi holiday slash global mental health awareness movement states as it's priority the "scaling up of services through citizen advocacy and action". The first Mental Health Health Day was celebrated in 1992 and so it only took me 16 years to hear about

Gorske has said that "he was always fascinated with numbers, and watching McDonald's track it's numbers" Obsessive compulsive disorder or OCD is an anxiety disorder with a twist. When I was a kid chewing gum was a semi-sinful food. Apparently the threat of  having it stuck under a desk or somebodies shoe was enough to create a freakishly long list of rules regulating its consumption. But alas gum is much more than just a public nuisance. A new study from Swinburne  University in Melbourne Australia has shown that chewing gum can help relieve stress and anxiety. And that’s not all, gum chewing can also help you focus while multitasking according to the new research findings. The study was conducted by splitting the

It turns out that the economic downturn is not just causing angst in the United States. According to news.scotsman.com there is a higher number of Scots in Glasgow seeking help for anxiety, stress and depression as a result of recent global economic turbulence. This is of course no surprise since the world economy is being hit negatively from all sides. The housing market crash, rising energy cost, inflation, the credit crunch, and now even banks are starting to fail (in the USA). With all these economic problems anxiety in the 'general'

Anxiety disorder is fear on tap and as a result you are vulnerable to the development of phobias. Take me for example, I have had anxiety disorder for over 9 years and during that time I have developed a fear of flying, fear of the dark, and walking on streets that have a lot of cars passing through them. Being scared of everything is not unique to you and I either. According to couriermail.com.au a British hypnotherapists named Joseph Clough has conducted a survey of more than 1000 people which showed that 1 in 5 of those folks has some
