Paul Dooley

Most  people are self centered to a certain degree.  The reasons for being self-centered also vary a great deal as well, but are anxious people inherently more self-centered than the average person? Although generalizing is not a good thing when it comes to describing people it appears that anxious people are a little self absorbed, but not because of vanity or some other self serving reason.  Anxiety, like almost all mental ailments, dominates much of the anxious persons mental day. Whether it's thoughts or feelings you can bet that

In May 2008 I set out to create a blog that was different from the hundreds of websites that I'd seen on anxiety.  Most of those websites were informative, helpful, and balanced but not all that interesting. In addition to that I had spent almost 5 years completely clueless about what was torturing me (between 1999 and 2004). After seeing a therapist I went on a mission to educate myself about my condition. And at the end of that journey I was almost certain that there were others like me. When I started this blog I had 5 people

This only came up because lately I've noticed that if I'm sucked in by speeding or negative thoughts I usually will not encounter physical anxiety symptoms like hot flashes for example. The only thing that I

Walking around with the perennial dark cloud of anxiety disorder can bring anyone down.  I'd say it would be unusual if anxiety sufferers didn't feel bummed about their condition from time to time.  However, the slippery slope of self pity is a mental trap that will not only make it more difficult to recover from episodes of anxiety but it also perpetuates the hated thoughts and feelings you endure on a daily basis. To acknowledge that anxiety sucks is one thing, it is another thing altogether to let this realization permeate your bones and

photo credit: hmerinomx Now I'm not going to launch into a dissertation about how this recent outbreak of swine flu is like the Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 or how it may spread and cause a similar calamity.  In fact, what I want to say instead is don't panic. I know that many anxiety sufferers are hypochondriacs and can be overwhelmed by irrational fears.  Over the weekend news reports by CNN, FOX, and other networks have really grabbed a hold of this story and starting Monday ran with it. As of April 27, 2009 there have been about
