To answer my own question, yes I do daydream a lot. Believe it or not daydreaming is a symptom of anxiety disorder and depression.  So chances are if you're an anxious person you spend much of your time in la la land, fantasizing about a very cool version of yourself doing extraordinary things.  But why? Most shrinks think that daydreaming is a self defense mechanism.  Daydreaming is a form of escapism.  As you well know, when you have an anxiety disorder things can get negative and intense.  Not only that, but all that negativity can get

Many of you know that recently I was planning to unplug the Anxiety Guru Show.  And now that the deadline I set is here it pains me to do this, so I had an idea. For those of you that don't know The Anxiety Guru Show is a podcast that I produce.  Anyway, due to money issues I thought of closing down the podcast until things improved economically. The problem is that many people love the podcast and gain a great deal from it.  This is why closing it down without a fight made me cringe.  So running a short fund raiser I guess will be a

Today I want to share with you a diet tip that can help you reduce your anxiety and depression .  I've always believed that to successfully cope with anxiety you have to use plenty of different tools and I'd like to suggest that you put whey protein into your toolbox. Now, if you can't consume milk or milk derived products, whey protein will not be of much use to you, so to these people, I owe you one.  But for everyone else that can consume milk derived products, let me introduce you to whey protein.  This stuff is absolutely amazing, and

Clothes are never a frivolity: they always mean something. ~ James Laver Anxiety can make you feel and think lots of things.  Especially things that aren't necessarily true.  Ultimately these false beliefs can influence and shape your self-image into complex distortions that make you think that you're too fat, dumb, giddy or whatever.  A simple way to rejuvenate your self-image is to take care of your appearance. When it comes to helping people cope with anxiety lots of folks talk about drugs, therapy, and even gimmick programs.  But

As you traverse the confusing landscape of anxiety you will likely come upon it's alter ego depression . In many respects anxiety and depression are different sides of the same coin since both have the capacity to tangle your emotions and leave you feeling utterly hopeless.  Luckily like anxiety, depression tends to also respond well to treatment efforts like self help techniques designed to combat depression. In my view the goal of most types of therapy for depression and other thinking disorders is not only to reveal the root of your

Today I wanted to introduce you to a great resource called The Reality of Anxiety .  The Reality of Anxiety is authored by Aimee who was kind enough to offer some tips for my readers on how to reach that ever elusive state of relaxation. Learning How to Relax This month I have been looking into different ways to relax. Not just take-a-hot-bath relax (although I have been doing that too), but techniques that can have a significant effect on my anxiety. It’s important to reverse the effects that panic does to our bodies, specifically

Have you ever wondered why you become so afraid when you have an anxious thought?  It could be a thought about a potential panic attack, fear of embarrassing yourself, fear of going crazy or if you're in a depressive mode perhaps fear of hurting yourself or someone else.  Most times you might yell internally and pronounce to yourself that you would never take action on that nasty thought.  So why all the associated fear?  In a word, suggestibility . Like a hypnotherapist, anxiety has the ability to manipulate your emotions and your thought
