Paul Dooley

An amulet is essentially an object meant to "protect a person from trouble". Almost anything can be an amulet but generally speaking they are small and portable - think rabbits foot. Some people think of amulets as lucky charms or in some cases they are meant to keep away 'bad spirits' e.g., bad vibes. But amulets are also useful because they can serve as reminders. They can remind us of a loved one, an event, or even of our own feelings. This got me thinking a few weeks ago and I came up with an idea. What if I could create an amulet for

A few years ago I visited my primary doctor because of chest pains and after a few tests he confirmed that I had an anxiety disorder and not heart disease. After the test he spoke to me for about 5 minutes, prescribed Prozac , and told me to have a great day. At first I really didn't think much about this, but for reasons unknown to me, I stuck the little bottle of pills in my pocket and vowed to never ingest any of it. In retrospect it may have been my natural suspicion and anxiety about things I knew nothing about, but over time it

Click on the image to read story. In this short article a man describes his life with anxiety and how it finally ended up causing him to go from simply anxious to obsessed. Although slightly humorous I wanted to share the article as an example of why you don't want to have an untreated anxiety disorder. In a recent article I wrote called "The Building Blocks Of Anxiety Disorder" I explained the reasons why anxiety can build up over time. This article is really about what can happen to a person when they allow their anxiety to

Although general feelings of anxiety and panic can arise from out of the blue for many anxiety sufferers their condition has built up over time. The reason for this progression in anxiety is related to things like life stress, genetics, brain chemistry (controversial), and your environment. Once a person becomes anxious it is very easy for them to slip into a constant state of worry and anxiety. I've heard the progression of an anxiety disorder explained and described in many different ways but there is one explanation that I encountered

There are basically 6 reasons why alcohol consumption and hangovers make many people anxious and I'm going tell you what they are. I want to share this with you so that you can be more informed and avoid becoming alcohol's punching bag. Ever since I became sick with nervous illness I've heard a lot of people say that anxiety sufferers should not drink alcohol because it makes you more nervous than you already are. I've always found this to be ironic because there are so many anxiety sufferers that drink alcohol to cope with their anxiety,

The Secret To My Semi Success

One of the biggest problems I had with unmasking my anxiety disorder and managing the related symptoms was tied to my utter ignorance about anxiety disorder(s) itself. The good news is that if you are reading this post than clearly you have some clue as to what's bothering you. But don't stop there because knowing is just half the battle (yes that is a line from G.I Joe). I really didn't know what I had back in 1999 when anxiety first struck me. I was confused, afraid, and worst of all I had no idea what was wrong. This leads me to the first

One of the most common fears of anxiety sufferers is being stuck in a huge crowd. There is just something unsettling about being surrounded by hundreds or even thousands of people. This fear however is normal and its also something that affects all people in some way. It just so happens that when you have anxiety the affect can be more severe.
